Summary. ADR Adventure Park definitely falls under the category of "splurge." At $130/person for this all-day experience, it was quite pricey for a family of 4. However, it was a high-light of the trip and we definitely recommend footing the cost. The day's adventure includes 4-wheeling, hiking, ziplining, and rappelling. Also included in the fees are breakfast, lunch and snacks, as well as transportation. The staff were fun, patient and above-all devoted to safety. As someone afraid of heights, I was surprised how the staff's confidence and focus on safety helped me overcome fears and actually enjoy the thrill of flying through the canopies.
The day with ADR starts at their home offices near Manuel Antonio Park. Breakfast is provided before transportation to the Adventure Park. Once at the Park, we transferred to four-wheel vehicles and headed up a muddy, dirt road into the rainforest. The all-terrain vehicle crosses streams along the way and pass through narrow roads cut through hillsides.
Along the way, one of the drivers spotted a snake and jumped out to catch it and show it to the group. Ack!
Once we arrived to our destination deep in the forest, we started out on foot to the repelling site. On the way in, there were times we had to secure ourselves to rope to avoid slipping down the ravine.
After getting geared up, we first got to try out our equipment by swinging out across a ravine. Next we rappelled through the forest and then zip lined through a waterfall, where eventually we dropped into a pool of water. Later we zip lined again through a larger canopy, this time at a fairly good clip!
You don't need any experience rappelling in order to have fun here. The staff are great at giving instructions. Even height-wary people like me can have fun, though if you're totally terrified of heights, this may not be your thing. Similarly, the staff were great with the kids. Patient, kind, and encouraging, they made it an awesome experience for them. We highly recommend ADR Adventure Park.
