Tahoe Donner: Hiking Mount Judah Loop Trail + Donner Lake

Summary: The Mount Judah Loop Trail is located above Donner Lake and crosses the Pacific Coast Trail. This 4.8 mile loop is dog-friendly and has beautiful lake views. Stretches of this trail are without shade and can get hot in the summer. Bring water and sun-protection. Afterwards, cool off at Donner Lake State Park where paddle boards, boats, kayaks and other lake toys are available to rent.

Most of the trail is uncovered but there are short stretches of shade. The terrain is easy to hike for the area, with approximately 1,200 feet of elevation gain over the nearly 5 mile hike.

Donner Lake. For a fun, post-hiking activity, try paddle boarding on Lake Donner. The State Park offers hourly paddle board rentals, along with kayaks, boats, and jet ski's. We parked ourselves on the edge of the Lake, enjoyed a picnic lunch and spent a couple hours taking turns on the paddle boards.
