Bratislava, Slovakia
Bratislava is the largest City in Slovakia, a former Eastern Block country bordered by Poland, Hungary, Austria, Ukraine and, of course, the Czech Republic. Enjoying a high income economy, Bratislava is a thriving capital City filled with culture, beautiful architecture, and lovely markets. We chose this City because of our family roots in this region and ended up being pleasantly surprised by Bratislava's charm and interesting history. Our entire day here was nearly cost-free as there are plenty of no-cost and low-cost activities. Tip: We took an Uber from the train station to downtown which is inexpensive and easier than trying to navigate Bratislava's public transportation.
Things To-Do
Note: This Slovakia page has Bratislava only because, well, that's the only City we have visited so far. Of course, we will add to it when our travels bring us back to this region.
Free Walking Tour: Take a free walking tour and learn about the history of Bratislava. Tours in English run Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for 2.5 hours beginning at11:00 a.m. Don't forget to tip your guide.
Stroll through outdoor markets: Before arriving, check the local events calendar for outdoor markets. During our visit, there was a wonderful farmer's market and Slovakia culture market.
Walk Old Town Bratislava: Bratislava also has museums to visit but at this point in our trip, we wanted to take a break from museums. Instead, we enjoyed people watching and window shopping through this lovely City.
